The flow vane concept is a high lift configuration invented, developed and patented by SMART BLADE GmbH. It enhances the performance of the main section of the wind turbine blade by increasing lift while delaying stall. The specific design characteristics of the flow vane design are a result of extensive numerical investigations and wind tunnel validations. This element is currently developed as a passive lift augmentation element but in the future it will also exist in an active version. Such an active version will allow the fine tuning of the configuration performance depending on the instantaneous wind velocity vector and it will also be able to function as a spoiler for emergency rotor deceleration.
We currently offer the passive flow vane as a custom designed add-on element for existing wind turbine blades or new wind turbine blade designs. The modular design of this element enables simple and fast implementation without manufacturing or handling modifications of the wind turbine blades.
